Mediation Overview

Prof. Brian Williams is directly involved in peace education and the training of mediators to address conflicts in South Africa and Africa. In December 2012, he started to train youth mediators in South Sudan and Uganda. He is currently contracted to train more mediators and do peace education. In August 2019 the first South African cohort received training. In order to work in these terrains, an understanding of the political as well as the social systems is essential.

Prof. Williams has a number of high profile Peace Ambassador Programs in South Africa.

Prof. Williams successfully created a platform through mediation for the resolution of a major intra organizational conflict within Ikamva Labantu, a development body that was formed 53 years ago.

Prof. Williams successfully mediated one of the worst post-apartheid community conflicts in the township of Hangberg. In Old Crossroads (Boystown), Prof. Williams resolved an intra community conflict after seven people were killed. The mediation intervention made it possible for a key housing development project (1500 houses) to get off the ground.
